Bill McGill

The Artist

Bill McGill was born in Greytown, Natal in 1934.In 1944 the McGill family moved to Rustenburg in the North West Province and Bill was educated at Rustenburg High School and King Edward VII High School in Johannesburg.
Bill's art master at KES was Tommy Mills and it was this excellent teacher who instilled in Bill an appreciation and love of the watercolour medium.

In 1973 Bill attended an art school held in Spain by the well-known British artist, Peter Leyly and in 2009 he completed an oil painting course with Dale Elliot.

Bill has painted in watercolours for fifty-seven years and has taught art for forty-five years : first at the Rustenburg Technical College and later in his own studio at home. From 1978 until 1995 he was the owner of the well-known artgallery, Studio 5, in Rustenburg.

A portion of the now world famous Madikwe Game Reserve once belonged to the McGill family, and Bill's love of nature and animals is reflected in his wildlife paintings and drawings.
